The end of February 2020 marked the project submission deadline for the Hestia Prices 2020. As in the previous two years, the objective of these awards was to recognize and disseminate the work being carried out by health professionals in the field of social and health care and mental health. Of the total, 2 prizes of € 1,000 were destined for the best article published in socio-health care or mental health, and the remaining 3 of € 500 for the best communication to a congress on topics of social health care, mental health or palliative care. There was a total budget of € 3,500 endowed in this edition.
A total of 55 proposals were received and evaluated, 32 for the best article (17 in the social health field and 15 in mental health) and 23 for the best communication (16 in the social health field, 6 in mental health and 1 in palliative care). A total of 41 authors belonging to 31 centers in the Spanish state participated. 60% of the centers are based in Catalonia, and the rest in other communities in the Spanish State (Andalucía, the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, the Valencian Community, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra and the Basque Country).
The evaluation team, chaired by Dr. X. Corbella, director of the Hestia-UIC Chair, and formed by Dr. M. Fernandez Castañer, collaborating member of the Chair, Dr. Susana Subirá, Director of the Hestia Foundation, Dr. Àngels Cañas, member of the Corporate Management of the Hestia Alliance Group and Mrs. Eva Luque, General Director of the Hestia Alliance Group, made the selection of candidates, after verifying the adjustment of the proposals to the bases of the call, fundamentally evaluating the impact factor of the magazines (for the articles) and the content and territorial scope of the congresses (for the communications). We want to highlight that 22 of the articles had an impact factor greater than 2, and 14 of the communications were presented at international conferences. Our congratulations to all the participants for the high level of work.
The award for the best communication in palliative care was declared void, as the only communication presented did not conform to the bases of the call.
The awarded articles and communications, the list of participating institutions, and their geographical location can be found below.
The appearance of the Covid-19 pandemic, its serious effects on the health system, and the consequent isolation measures have made it impossible to plan and carry out the awards ceremony based on initial forecasts. The winning authors have been informed electronically of the result of the call, but the presentation of the studies and the awarding of the prizes will not take place until the universities and health centers recover a certain degree of normality.
